South Kensington Residential
Our project in Kensington for our Client, in a 1 bedroom flat the architect and the client with our help managed to change things the way it was most suitable for them. The layout could not have been altered unfortunately but we have upgraded the bathroom, the kitchen, bedroom, and of course the living room. The project started with a site meeting and discussing the client’s plans and how we could transform them into reality. We worked closely with the architect to make sure we were implementing the new future into the older Victorian design that our client imagined. Our bathroom had a strange layout as the window was at the back, where we had only enough space for a nice-sized shower. We installed a modern wall-hung toilet with a double basin on black metal legs. The sleek design worked perfectly with golden fittings such as the shower mixer, taps, and pendants. Bespoke furniture was added to hide the boiler and provide hidden storage for towels and other essentials. The choice of small metro tiles from Fire Earth and the overall colour scheme gave the bathroom the feel of a Turkish bath, which was the client’s inspiration. The kitchen has a curved wall, so we had to design it in a way that used the space efficiently. The flooring was finished with wood-effect tiles, creating the impression of continuous wooden flooring from the kitchen to the bathroom. All original features such as plaster coving in the bedroom and living room were preserved. We replicated this detailing in the hallway and kitchen, including the small hallway area. Changing the sash windows and removing obstructing window features significantly improved natural light. The bespoke bookcase with cabinets and drawers at the bottom, combined with gold grill panels and hanging lamps above to illuminate the books, was a wonderful addition to the living room.In the bedroom, we added wardrobes and extra cabinetry in the hallway with doors and drawers, creating space to hide coats, bags, cleaning items, and more.We also built a chimney breast for the new electric fireplace to create the feeling of sitting in a Victorian house.
